Flora

We carve love into the world
as if it's anything other than
our own responsibility.
Planting expectations in
the stories we tell of

"How we met"
And
"How we know"
And
my guilty pleasure
"We're relieved we can stop now."

But for a seedling to take root
to thrive to grow to bloom
it requires:

- 2 parts Context and Timing
- a dash of sunshine
- relentless intention.

Somewhere along the way
I inherited their fear,
for choice, the action
~ to choose ~
care, vulnerability, investment
became burdensome.
became another monster
peering out from dark, rich earth.

They whisper,
"Was the giving tree
not courageous?
Did she not end
as she was just beginning?"

Her isolation and
her love's confusion and
her intensity and
her love's fear
when she was gone...

Why do we pretend
as if love is anything more
than a series of zero sum
comprises, sacrifices.

Home

Stardust and chaos,⁣
thunder and lightning,⁣
I wasn’t built to be caged. ⁣

I’ve grown too comfortable⁣
with leaping from cliffs,⁣
the rush of crisp air and⁣
intoxication of open skies,⁣
quiet, unspoken addictions. ⁣

When I leave and migrate to⁣
an unknown, endless horizon,⁣
search for warmth and space,⁣
I carry our yesterdays on my back.⁣

But if you ever doubt my return,⁣
think my tomorrows will replace⁣
the harmony of our duets with ⁣
new, unfamiliar, eclectic notes. ⁣

Please know,⁣
you’re always my destination.

Morning sunshine

You'll name the flowers
and I'll name the ways in which
I cherish our walks.

June 9, 2019

I need some space.

Thoughts like scattered clouds,
waiting for gentle guidance,
seeking direction.

Border Crossings [Reprise]

I'll follow your lead,
kiss you goodbye at the bus,
walk away blushing.

My own boldness can
surprise even me sometimes,
for better, for worse.

But if you assume
my heart is available
know that it is split.

Love born from friendship
and cemented over years,
a blessing and curse.

They're still as water,
merciful and merciless
below their surface.

I would drown and breathe
equally in their embrace,
and relish it all.

Border Crossings

With your brown sugar skin
and coy smile tucked behind
words wielded like caresses,
you thawed Winter, honored
my emerging Spring flowers.

I'll plant soft goodbyes on
clouds and tender lips alike,
whisper prayers to the Wind.

May the Sun guide you home,
for warmth is where the heart is.

May the Moon shine hope on
whatever shapes your fears.

And may the Stars continue
to seek shelter in your eyes,
for there is no greater gift
than to be witnessed.
