Difficult Decisions

choosing softness is...

difficult
exhausting
isolation

... radical.

it's breathing when he
tells you to be calm

it's sitting with and exploring
your rage when he says
you're taking it too far

it's loving your body even
when you feel his eyes
linger, his mouth salivate
over every inch of your

it's navigating violence
in every space, in every
actor no matter how
"other" or familiar

it's patience when he tells
you to opt out, as if you
ever had the choice.

it's resilience in exploration,
it's curiosity taking root

it's conversations for months
about consent and boundaries

it's the prayer that accountability
is a pass forward, that the sharp
edges of the world were man
made and can be humanly abolished.

choosing softness demands...

creativity
investment
hope

... radical love.

Disrupting Capitalism's Urgency

find you the ones

who love radically,
who love others radically,
who love themselves radically

it's messy and emotive and inspiring

and healing and small breaths in a
world gasping for air being stolen,
bottled, and sold back to us.

Where is Safety

when I'm on the ground there's
so much anger
simmering beneath
my surface
rooted in ugly
wounds,
I'm desperately
trying to apply salves,
while sinking into quicksand.

What is Safety

I'm so anxious I can't
tell if I'm choking on
the story in my head
or if my stomach has
decided to pass
along its nausea to
my heart.

chronic anxiety.

episodic depression.

these words are
meaningless to me.
they're emptier than
the drugs I take for
relief, stretch longer
than the distance
between people's
words and their
actions, spin faster
than narcissists retell
their stories to suit
themselves.

to have future vision
is to be mentally
unwell, is to name the
beast before we may
be ready to face it, is
to be in such
proximity to silence
you practice the art
of not assigning
meaning or hope,
alike.

I'm so anxious I can't
tell the difference
between a blessing
and a curse, because
either violate my
consent in a world
filled with sharp
edges that cross my
soft boundaries while
demanding unending
vulnerability.
