united states of violence ii

we don't bring food we
bring boxes of light blue
face shields, and we check
temperatures she told me I
ran warm but I think I fight
red hot or sometimes I freeze
in the deepest blues that
drown out the sun and I sink
into a safety rectangle to rest

we don't bring food we
bring boxes of light blue
face shields, and we check
temperatures she told me
about surviving about survival
about yesterday's memory
about tomorrow's fear
about a moment of silence

we don't bring food we
bring boxes of light blue
face shields, and we check
temperatures she told me
she wants to walk home,
she wants to be home,
she wants to live.

we don't bring food. we
bring boxes of light blue
face shields. and we check
temperatures. she told me
my safety is bound in hers.
