But Don't You Get Lonely?

I am the heartbeat of a hummingbird,

frantic thumps and beats as I
drift from flower to flower drinking
my fill of the sweetest nectar. 

I am the perseverance of a lioness, 
able to hunt and fend for myself
willing to lead and nurture from behind, 
quite capable and independent. 

I am the tenacity of a honey badger, 
strange, largely misunderstood
but the creature you want with you
when the ship begins to sink. 

But, yes, somedays I am human, 
and the loneliness outweighs the 
benefits of the walls keeping
everyone so very far away.

I guess that's just human nature.
